PART L1 SAP

What is it?

SAPs stands for the British Government’s Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) for Energy Rating of Dwellings.

The indicators of energy performance are:

  • Fabric Energy Efficiency (FEE)
  • energy consumption per unit floor area
  • energy cost rating (the SAP rating)
  • Environmental Impact rating based on CO2 emissions (the EI rating) and
  • Dwelling CO2 Emission Rate (DER)

What is it for?

A SAP assessment is used for assessing the energy performance and CO2 emissions of a dwellings. This assessment is usually used to demonstrate compliance against Approved Document Part L1A of Building Regulations.

Requirements

  • Criterion 1:
    • Achieving Dwelling Emissions Rate (DER) below the Target Emissions Rate (TER).
    • Achieving the Target Fabric Energy Efficiency (TFEE) to be below the Dwelling Fabric Energy Efficiency (DFEE).
  • Criterion 2: Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards for Services and Building Fabric.
  • Criterion 3: Limit the risk of summer overheating.

SAP calculations are normally carried as ‘draft stage’, ‘as designed’ and ‘as built’. We can provide pre-design options as well as energy demand calculations for accurate selection of the dwelling’s envelope, ventilation, lighting, renewables and heating systems.

We are fully qualified to carry out SAP Calculations assessments under part L1A for new dwellings and Part L1B for residential conversions and extensions.

As part of our services we can develop a 3D model to fully assess CO2 emissions, energy consumption, passive solar design, renewables, ventilation and other services such as thermal comfort and daylighting.
